Dawn Of A Filmmaker: The Keisuke Kinoshita Story
Plot Synopsis
One of the greatest filmmakers in the history of Japanese cinema, the prolific Keisuke Kinoshita is best known for films like Carmen Comes Home and The Ballad Of Narayama. Discover an unknown chapter in his life with this gentle drama, produced by his old studio Shochiku in commemoration of his 100th birthday. Set in wartime Japan, Dawn Of A Filmmaker depicts the period when Kinoshita (Ryo Kase) stepped away from filmmaking due his refusal to make pro-military propaganda films. To find refuge for his family, Kinoshita pulled his ailing mother (Yuko Tanaka) on a handcart on an arduous 60 km journey. This journey would become a major influence for a crucial moment in Kinoshita's 1944 film The Army.
